Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer tuition in subjects other than maths and science?

No. By focusing only on maths and science, we ensure we maintain the highest standards of tuition in these specialised areas.

What platform do you use for online lessons?

We use an online platform called Bitpaper. Bitpaper is an online whiteboard where we can write, draw shapes, and import PDF documents and pictures. Everything updates in real time so it’s as if we’re working on the same piece of paper.

Why Bitpaper?

We believe Bitpaper has two main advantages over competing online whiteboards. First, it has a clear layout and intuitive interface that makes using the platform a breeze. Second, it has a built-in live chat function which includes audio and video. This allows us to communicate from within Bitpaper without using a second platform. For more information about Bitpaper, please visit https://www.bitpaper.io/features or search ‘bitpaper’ in your browser.

Do I need to download an app?

No. Bitpaper is a web-based platform that works on most popular internet browsers. You do not need to download an app.

Do I need to sign up to Bitpaper?

Yes. Sign-up is required to save the notes we make on the virtual whiteboard and to use the call feature for audio during the lesson. You will, however, be able to access the virtual whiteboard without signing up. See our Guide to Online Lessons Using Bitpaper for a step-by-step explanation of how to sign up.

Is Bitpaper free?

For you as the student, Bitpaper is free. Integral pays a subscription fee which allows our tutors to create papers and initiate calls. With your free student account, you will still be able to open and save our lesson papers, and join calls. The only thing you will not be able to do is create lesson papers and initiate calls. In short, you do not need to register for a paid subscription. Instead, select the ‘$0 (student)’ subscription option.

Do you use a video call for lessons?

Generally, no. We find audio calls work best. However, Bitpaper does allow for video calls within the platform so if you would prefer a video call to an audio call, this is certainly possible. The video call function may also be used if we need to have a meeting.

What equipment does my child need for an online lesson with Integral?

A tablet (e.g. an iPad), desktop or laptop that allows for handwriting input is essential. We recommend your child has a stylus as this will allow them to easily write out potentially complicated maths equations that are difficult and time consuming to enter using a keyboard. Being able to write is essential as it allows your child to engage actively in the lesson.

My child has access to an iPad, do they need an Apple Pencil?

No. Any stylus that works with their iPad (or other tablet, laptop, or desktop) is suitable.

Can I observe my daughter or son’s lesson remotely?

Yes. Simply open the unique lesson link in your internet browser and you will be able to observe their lesson from your device. If you would like to also hear the lesson audio, you will have to sign-up to Bitpaper using an email address. (For step-by-step instructions on how to sign-up, see our Guide to Online Lessons Using Bitpaper). Once you have signed up, open the lesson link, click on the phone icon in the bottom left hand corner and then select ‘join call’.
